We built UTKU's first seasons around warm-weather fabrics. As the year turns, we're turning to the fibre that handles cold better than anything else we work with: merino.
What Makes It Different
Merino comes from merino sheep, prized for an exceptionally fine fleece. Those thinner fibres are basically the whole story: softer against the skin, lighter on the body, and far more responsive to temperature than ordinary wool.
It's the difference between wool that just keeps you warm and wool you actually want to keep wearing.
Merino vs Standard Wool
Fibre diameter in microns, the thinner the fibre, the smoother the feel. Shorter bar means finer.
Typical ranges, real fibres vary by grade. Finer fibre is what gives merino its smooth, no-itch hand.
How It Should Perform
Projected from merino's known properties, the first UTKU pieces land this fall/winter and we'll update this once real feedback comes in.
The Foundation Of Fall / Winter
Merino's going to anchor our first cold-weather collection, made the same way as everything else we do: by hand, in Ecuador, in small batches, finished with tagua nut buttons.
